Today we are comparing the Skims Long Slip Dress and the Amazon Dupe to give you a clear picture of which one is worth the purchase.
To make sustainable style purchases, it is important to do solid research before clicking “order”. With so many great dupes of more expensive pieces, it is also important to gauge the quality against the price of clothing pieces so you can save your hard-earned money and get what you want. I purchased both the real Skims Long Slip Dress and the Amazon dupe so I could try them both of them on and provide a quality review so you can make an informed purchase.
First things first: I ordered both pieces in black. Black felt like the color that would be most versatile in my closet and that could be dressed up or down. Both pieces arrived quickly and were packaged well. The Skims dress costs $80.00 and the Amazon Dupe costs $24.88. The price difference is vast, and that alone could be reason enough to make a decision. A difference of $55.12 is not nothing, and can easily be spent on something else. Skims does offer free shipping for orders over $75, and if you have an Amazon Prime subscription shipping is free, so for this purchase, you would get free shipping for both items. Both dresses arrived in a small bag within the shipping packaging secured from the elements. +1 for both.
Now onto the fit and quality.
I tried on the Skims dress first since we are comparing the dupe to the original inspiration. The Skims dress is extremely form-fitting and the material is incredibly stretchy. When trying it on, it felt tight as I was getting it on, but once it’s on it somehow suddenly feels like butter, easily slipping over curves and comfortably melting over your body. Even though it was a very tight dress, I felt like I could do anything in it without being uncomfortable. An added plus: the material was thick enough that it was not at all see-through, which was so nice.
I tried the Amazon dupe next. I had high hopes because I repeatedly saw people talk about how amazing this dupe is and how similar the dresses are. The dupe was very tight but interestingly enough, not as stretchy as the Skims dress. It felt as though it was pulling in some areas and was overall less comfortable to wear. Walking in this dress was a bit more difficult as it felt tighter around the ankles. In addition, when I checked the quality of the material, I could see through the dress when standing in front of daylight.
My one caveat to mention about these dresses is that they are so form fitting that they really do show every curve. I tried these when I was a few months postpartum and wasn’t feeling quite ready to wear such a form fitting dress but I am excited to wear it this summer! I chose to keep the Skims Long Slip Dress and return the Amazon Dupe. Overall, I felt that the quality of the Skims dress, the fact that it was not see-through, and the buttery feeling of the stretch was worth the extra $55.12. The Amazon dupe is a great option if you’re looking for something similar to the Skims dress but are only going to wear it once or twice. The comfort of the Skims dress was just too good to pass up and is, in my opinion, worth every penny.
Has anyone else tried the Skims Long Slip Dress or the Amazon Dupe? Also, if there are any other dupes you would like me to compare to the original let me know in the comments below – I would love to review them for you!
