If you’re like me, you put off having an Elf on the Shelf for quite a few years. Something about it felt daunting and I felt I was sure to forget and mess it up! But this year, we decided to finally do it. Our oldest daughter is now five, and it felt like she would really be able to understand and enjoy the “magic” of the Elf.
Well… this really was a great decision for us. Mornings have become so fun – she jumps out of bed each day so excited to find her Elf and see what she has been up to the night before!
One of the things I knew I wanted to do was to have an introduction letter with the Elf on the first day. I felt like this was the best way for our daughter to be able to understand how the Elf on the Shelf works while maintaining that the Elf was sent straight from Santa himself!
I chose to pretend that I did not know anything about the Elf. I told our daughter that Santa had sent me a message saying we were chosen this year to have a special Elf sent to our house and stay with us through the holiday season, but I did not know anything else about it.
If you’re on the fence about doing an Elf on the Shelf, I would say do it! It definitely adds a touch of holiday magic to the season.
