Pregnancy is tough. Being that this is my second time, I have some experience in the belly oil and lotion department. I applied lotions and oils religiously during my first pregnancy and am doing the same with this one. Now, of course, we know that for the most part stretch marks seem to be genetic and impossible to prevent. Even with knowing this, I felt it was important that I do my part to at least attempt to avoid them.
Personally, I feel stretch marks can be inevitable and have a lot to do with how fast your belly grows throughout the pregnancy and how you carry. For example, I am carrying much lower this time and I definitely feel that my belly is stretched further than it was during my first pregnancy.
Belly oils and lotions are important to me for reasons other than stretch marks such as itching. I have naturally very dry skin and even when not pregnant I lotion so much. When pregnant, my belly becomes so much itchier when it’s dry due to the skin stretching. I rotate which product I use each night to make sure I am using a variety. Because of this, it is so important to keep my skin hydrated. Below are my favorite belly oils and lotions to use throughout pregnancy.
- Bio Oil – This is my absolute favorite belly oil. It’s the first item I purchased when I found out that I was pregnant again and I use it constantly. In addition to it being extremely moisturizing, it smells divine!
- Coconut Oil – Any coconut oil for skin will work. I use this every few nights and lather it all over my belly.
- Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks – I found this product about mid-way through this pregnancy because I was looking for another lotion to apply throughout the day when I was feeling dry. This lotion is thick enough that it feels very moisturizing and stays well.
- Palmer’s Coconut Oil Hydrate Replenish Body Oil – This oil is another great one. I love the coconut smell and it feels lighter on my belly while still doing a great job moisturizing my skin.
- Lux Unfiltered N32 – One thing about pregnancy is that (for me) I always feel better when I have a tan. This product is a gradual self-tanning lotion. I get this in the scent Santal. The lotion is very hydrating so when I want a tan, I apply this after a shower and it does the job of moisturizing and tanning. Always remember to ask your doctor before using this product if you are also pregnant!
These are my favorite items to use and so far seem to be working for me. Do you have any belly oils or lotions you swear by? Let me know in the comments below!
